Demo the blue dot with Demo mode

All guides

Want to show a client the blue dot without standing in their building? GPS Demo mode forces the dot on everywhere so you can showcase the feature from anywhere. It's a demonstration aid — powerful for a pitch, but not something to leave on for real visitors.

What Demo mode does

Turn it on and Mapvera stops caring about the usual requirements — the dot simply appears so you can talk to it.

BehaviourDetail
Forces the dot on everywhereEvery level shows the dot — no per-level toggle and no captured corners required.
Uses real location when it canIf the device's real location happens to fall inside the mapped area, the dot uses it — a genuine live demo.
Falls back to a simulated dotOtherwise it shows a stationary dot at the centre of the level, even with device location off or denied — so the dot always appears on screen.
Suppresses the warningsNo "location is off" or "outside the map area" prompts show while Demo mode is on.

Turn Demo mode on

  1. Open the GPS tab

In the editor, choose the GPS tab.

  2. Tick Enable GPS Demo mode

In the top card, tick Enable GPS Demo mode.

  3. Save and preview

Click Save & Publish, then open the map and zoom in — the dot appears on any level, ready to demonstrate.

Demo mode is exclusive. Ticking it automatically unticks the master switch and both warning options — and ticking any of those again unticks Demo mode. You can't run Demo mode and the real blue dot at the same time, because Demo mode already forces everything on.

Switch it off for production

Because Demo mode shows a simulated dot when there's no real fix, a genuine visitor could see a dot sitting in the middle of a level that has nothing to do with where they actually are. That's fine for a demo and misleading for the public — so turn it off before you go live.

  1. Untick Enable GPS Demo mode

On the GPS tab, untick Enable GPS Demo mode.

  2. Turn the real dot back on

Tick Enable GPS blue dot (live visitor location), and make sure each level you want has the dot enabled and its corners captured (see the calibration guides).

  3. Save and publish

Click Save & Publish. Visitors now see a real, calibrated blue dot instead of the demo one.

A quick way to remember it: Demo mode is for you showing the feature; the master switch plus calibrated corners is for visitors finding themselves. Never ship with Demo mode on.
