Map basics

Set a different opening zoom for each floor

Map makers All guides

Every level can have its own start view: how it's framed when the map opens on that level, or when a visitor switches to it. Smaller upper floors often want a gentler zoom than the ground floor, and this is where you set that.

Find it on the Levels tab

Edit the map, open the Levels tab, and expand a level. Under its image you'll find Start view for that level, with four controls: Start zoom (desktop), Start zoom (mobile), and the Set focus (desktop) and Set focus (mobile) buttons.

Set the zoom and the focus

  1. Set the start zoom

Type a zoom into Start zoom (desktop) and Start zoom (mobile). Bigger numbers open further in. Phones have a smaller screen, so they often want a slightly different value from desktop.

Leave a field blank and that device uses the map default (fitted to the whole level).

  2. Set the focus point

Click Set focus (desktop), then click the exact spot on the map that should sit in the centre when it opens. Do the same with Set focus (mobile). Once set, the button shows a tick.

  3. Preview

Watch the live preview reframe as you go. Resize your browser to check the mobile framing as well as desktop.

A level's start view also applies when a visitor switches to that level, not only on first open, so every floor lands framed the way you chose.

It overrides the map default

A level's Start view takes priority over the map's default framing. Leave every field on a level blank and that level simply opens fitted to its whole image and centred. For the bigger picture, see Set how your map is framed when it opens.
