Add a group's About text

All guides

Each group can carry a short piece of About text — a friendly line or two that explains what the group covers. It's optional, but a well-written blurb helps visitors understand a group before they open anything inside it.

Where to write it

  1. Open the Groups tab

In the Advanced editor, open your map and click the Groups tab.

  2. Edit the group

Click Edit on the group you want to describe to open its fields.

  3. Fill in About (directory text)

Type your description into the About (directory text) field, then Save and publish.

What it's for

The About text is an optional blurb attached to the group. Some directory layouts show it next to the group's landmarks, so treat it as a caption a visitor might read while browsing — not a heading and not a place for essential instructions.

Because only some layouts surface this text, don't rely on it for anything a visitor must see. Put must-read details in the landmark descriptions instead, and use About purely to add helpful context.

Writing a good blurb

DoSkip
Keep it to a sentence or twoLong paragraphs that get truncated
Say plainly what the group coversRepeating the group's name back at the reader
Use everyday, welcoming wordingJargon or internal shorthand
Leave it blank if it adds nothingPadding it out just to fill the field

Not every group needs an About line. If the group's name already says it all — Toilets, Car parks — feel free to leave the field empty.
