Hide a group from the directory

All guides

Sometimes a group is useful for organising your landmarks but you'd rather visitors didn't filter by it. The Hide from directory toggle keeps a group off the filter chip strip without removing its landmarks from the map or the list.

Turn it on

  1. Open the Groups tab

In the Advanced editor, open your map and go to the Groups tab.

  2. Edit the group

Click Edit on the group you want to hide.

  3. Tick Hide from directory

Turn on the Hide from directory checkbox, then Save and publish.

What hiding actually does

Hiding a group removes only its filter chip. Everything else about the group's landmarks stays exactly as it was:

Still worksWhat changes
The group's landmarks appear in the A–Z / search listThe group's chip disappears from the filter strip
Landmark pins still open from the mapVisitors can no longer filter the list by this group
Search still finds those landmarks
The group can still colour its landmarks' pins and areas
Hiding a group is not the same as hiding a landmark. This toggle only takes the chip off the strip; the landmarks remain fully browsable. To keep a single landmark out of the list entirely, use its own Hide from directory option instead.

When to use it

Reach for this when a group exists mainly for your own tidiness or styling — for example a group you created just to colour a set of areas the same, or an internal grouping that wouldn't mean much to a visitor. You keep the organising benefit without cluttering the visitor's filter strip.

To bring the group back onto the strip, simply untick Hide from directory, then save and publish again.
