Zoom and pan the map

All guides

A map is much easier to read when you can get close to the part you care about. Here's every way to zoom and move around a Mapvera map, whether you're on a phone or a computer.

Zooming in and out

You're usingTo zoom
A touchscreenPinch two fingers apart to zoom in, together to zoom out. Double-tap to zoom in on a spot.
A mouseUse the scroll wheel over the map, or click the + and buttons.
A trackpadPinch-zoom, or use the on-screen + / buttons.
Some maps limit how far in or out you can go, and a few switch off scroll-wheel zoom so the page still scrolls normally. If the wheel doesn't zoom, use the + / buttons instead.

Panning (moving around)

To move the map, just drag it — press and hold anywhere on the map and move, then let go. On a touchscreen, drag with one finger. The map springs back if you try to drag it past its edges.

Keeping your bearings

  1. Watch the minimap

If the map shows a small minimap in a corner, it highlights the slice of the map you're currently looking at — handy when you're zoomed right in.

  2. Jump to a place

Tapping a place in the list or on the map zooms and centres on it automatically, so you don't have to hunt for it by hand.

  3. Reset the view

Zoom all the way out to see the whole map again, or use the Clear button (if shown) to cancel your selection and return to the start view.

When you open a place, the map often glides smoothly to it. That animation is a map setting — on some maps the view jumps instantly instead, which is normal.
