Getting started

Add your maps to WordPress

Team admins All guides

The Mapvera plugin makes it easy to put your maps into any WordPress page. It is a convenience layer over the standard Mapvera embed, so your maps look and behave exactly as they do everywhere else, and they keep working even if you deactivate the plugin. For how embedding works in general, see Embed your map on any website.

1. Download the plugin

Get the plugin from your team settings. Open the menu at the top right, choose Team Settings, and expand Embedding & WordPress Plugin. Click Download the plugin to save the file.

2. Install and activate it

  1. Open your plugins

In WordPress admin, go to Plugins, then Add New Plugin.

  2. Upload

Click Upload Plugin, choose the file you downloaded, and click Install Now.

  3. Activate

Click Activate. A Mapvera Maps item appears under Settings.

3. Connect your maps (optional)

A key is optional. Your maps work without one, because you can always paste a map's ID into a block, widget, or shortcode. A key adds two things in the editor: you can search your maps by name, and you get the appearance controls. It also keeps your map list up to date on its own.

What a key can see. A key only ever reveals your maps' names and ids, the same public information as a map link. It never exposes your content, members, or settings. It is stored on your WordPress site only.

  1. Create a key

In Team Settings, under Embedding & WordPress Plugin, type a name and click Create key. Copy the key now, as it is shown once.

  2. Paste it in WordPress

Go to Settings, Mapvera Maps, paste the key into Integration key, and click Save settings.

  3. Check the status

You should see Connected with the number of maps found. If you ever need to retire a key, revoke it in Team Settings and create a new one.

4. Add a map to a page

Every method places the same map, so pick whichever suits how you build pages. In each one you can enter a map ID by hand, and with a key connected you can search by name instead.

Block editor. Add the Mapvera Map block, choose a map, and set its appearance in the block settings on the right.

Elementor. Drag in the Mapvera Map widget and set the map and options in the widget panel.

Classic editor. Use the Mapvera Map button on the toolbar to insert a map.

Shortcode. Type a shortcode anywhere in your content:

[mapvera id="YOUR-ID"]

Find a map's ID in the editor on the Embed tab, or by name once a key is connected. The ID stays the same even if you rename the map, so a map you have already placed keeps working.

Choose how it looks

Use your map's saved look, or override it here. Leave Use Mapvera defaults on to match the appearance saved for that map. Turn it off to change the frame, opening action, button, and colours for this one placement. The choices come from your map's own embed options, so the plugin always offers what your maps support. For a full explanation of frames, opening actions, and the button, see Embed your map on any website.

Allow your site to show the map

Add your WordPress site to the allow list. By default only your own Mapvera pages may show your maps. In Team Settings, under Embedding & WordPress Plugin, add your site's domain to Allowed embed domains, one per line, then save. This is the same panel where you downloaded the plugin, so you can do both together.

A site that is not on the list gets a blank frame. Allow list changes can take a few minutes to apply.

If your site has a strict content policy

You only need to allow one address. Because the plugin loads its script and makes all of its calls from the single location you pick, a strict content policy just needs that one address. The Settings, Mapvera Maps page prints the exact lines to add.

Keep your map list fresh

The list updates itself. When you add, rename, or publish a map, the plugin picks it up automatically. If you just made a change and want it right now, open Settings, Mapvera Maps, and click Refresh map data.

If you deactivate the plugin, the shortcodes it wrote stay in your content, so your maps keep working as long as the embed is present.
