Turn on two-factor authentication

Team admins All guides

Two-factor authentication asks for a second thing at login, so a stolen password alone is not enough to reach your maps. Turn it on for your own account, and, as a team admin, you can require it for everyone.

Turn it on for your account

  1. Open your profile

Sign in, open the menu (top-right), choose your name / profile, and find the Security section.

  2. Get an authenticator app

Install any authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, 1Password or Authy on your phone.

  3. Scan and activate

Click Turn on Two-Factor, scan the QR code (or type the key), enter the 6-digit code the app shows, and click Activate Two-Factor.

  4. Save your backup codes

Keep the one-time backup codes somewhere safe, such as a password manager. Each works once if you ever lose your phone.

A passkey (Face ID, a fingerprint, or a security key) also counts as your second step. See Add a passkey as your second factor. Full detail is in Secure your account.

Require two-factor for the whole team

You can make a second step mandatory for everyone who opens your team. This covers team admins too. Mapvera staff are exempt so support can still help you.

  1. Open Team Settings

From the menu (top-right), choose Team Settings.

Only team admins can open Team Settings.

  2. Expand Require two-factor

    Open the Require two-factor section.

  3. Turn the requirement on

Tick Require two-factor authentication (authenticator app or passkey) to access this team and click Save.

Anyone without two-factor can still sign in to Mapvera, but cannot open this team until they set one up. They see a screen pointing them to their profile, so turn your own on first so you are not locked out.
